arbitify I'm loving this series. It's great to find a whole group of musicians that I was unfamiliar with playing free jazz. The clear highlight of this excellent album is the extended cover of Afro-Blue. Favorite track: Afro Blue (Bonus Track).

John Fenton Pure magic, what a debut. I’ll certainly be back for more. It’s great to find material like this in our own underground backyard - ‘Rated X’ is blistering hot

Trioglodyte with Kat Tomacruz/Bonnie Stewart/Brett Adams - Jazz From The Underground Nightclubs Of Aotearoa Vol 2 Kiwijahzz

Great joy abounds in these two missives from the New Zealand jazz underworld, recorded in a cellar in Auckland, both featuring saxophonist Jeff Henderson, bassist Eamon Edmundsen-Wells and drummer Chris O’Connor, plus guests. Though they make a good fist of scabrous flailing, the real fun is in their deliriously wonky covers of famous jazz tunes, delivered with subversive seriousness. On Vol 1, keyboardist Crystal Choi and electronicist Paul Taylor add Ra-worthy weirdness to a monstrously bullish charge through Miles Davis’s “Rated X”, with Henderson blowing furiously. On Vol 2 guitarists Brett Adams and Kat Tomacruz lend a bluesy twang. Seriously, though, can anyone resist a rockabilly romp through Coltrane’s “Impressions”? " Daniel Spicer - The Wire, Oct 2021
